American Red
American Red
A unique blend of maternal traits, adaptability, growth and marbling – all packaged with heat-tolerance – is the beef cross called American Red. Designed to impact producers in heat-challenged areas, American Red is a collaboration by the Red Angus Association of America and members of our American Red Alliance.
The offspring of this crossbreeding program are well suited for commercial producers who are seeking quality replacement females and steers that fit in the value-added segment of the beef industry.
Program Specs
To qualify for the American Red commercial cattle program and accompanying tag, steers and heifers in the same calf crop must be sired by registered Red Angus bulls (Cat 1A, 1B or 2) or bulls registered in Bos indicus-influenced breed associations.
Breed percentages on qualified cattle will range from 25% to 75% Red Angus and 25% to 75% Bos indicus-influenced breeds, with a maximum allowance of 25% Brahman.
Most qualified cattle will be red. However, color is not an exclusionary requirement.
The calf crop must be enrolled in either Angus Access or Allied Access.
Associate Membership of the Red Angus Association of America is required. Membership fees are $30 per year.
The enrollment fee is $70 per year. Optional dangle tags are available for management or promotional purposes with a $1.25 fee for each tag. There is no minimum for enrollment.
American Red Alliance
The American Red Alliance unites forward-thinking breeders dedicated to developing cattle that thrive in heat-stressed environments while maintaining exceptional maternal, growth and carcass qualities. Formed in collaboration with the Red Angus Association of America, the Alliance serves as the breed association supporting the American Red program – a unique cross combining Red Angus genetics with Bos indicus–influenced breeds. Through membership and certification, the Alliance works to promote consistent breed standards, marketing opportunities and special sales for enrolled cattle, ensuring American Red cattle deliver value and performance from pasture to plate.
